Ray Garcia-Morales

Building Leader (Principal) in Education

Ray Garcia-Morales begins his professional story as an educator, shaped by a deep belief in equity, access, and the responsibility schools bear to shape young lives. His career reflects a steady commitment to student success and institutional growth, grounded in humility and long-term service. Over more than two decades in education and social work, he has consistently focused on strengthening school systems, supporting vulnerable students, and fostering environments where learning and belonging can coexist.

Professional Journey and Leadership Foundation

His professional career spans approximately 25 years and includes a wide range of roles that have informed his leadership perspective. Ray Garcia began his work supporting young people through social services and nonprofit partnerships, experiences that reinforced the importance of addressing academic, emotional, and social needs together. Over time, these early roles became the foundation for his transition into school-based leadership.

For more than a decade, he has served as a high school administrator, first as an Assistant Principal and later as a Principal. His administrative experience includes leadership roles at multiple comprehensive high schools, each presenting distinct challenges and opportunities. In every setting, he approached leadership as a shared responsibility, emphasizing collaboration among educators, families, and community partners.

Commitment to Educational Equity

Equity has remained central to his work throughout his career. His leadership approach recognizes that student success requires intentional systems, clear expectations, and meaningful support structures. He has consistently worked to ensure that multilingual learners, students with disabilities, and students facing economic hardship receive the resources and advocacy they need to thrive.

His focus on equity is not limited to policy but is reflected in daily practice. Morales has prioritized student voice, culturally responsive practices, and transparent decision-making. These efforts have contributed to improved school climates and stronger relationships between schools and the communities they serve.

Educational Background

His academic path reflects a steady progression aligned with his professional goals. He earned an Associate of Arts degree from Seattle Central Community College, followed by a Bachelor of Arts in Social Welfare from the University of Washington. He later completed a Master’s degree in Social Work at Columbia University, an experience that broadened his understanding of urban education systems and social policy.

Recognizing the importance of instructional leadership and organizational management, he pursued additional studies in Educational Administration at Seattle University. This academic preparation strengthened his ability to lead complex institutions while remaining grounded in student-centered values.

Early Career in Social Work

Ray Garcia began his school-based career as a School Social Worker in New York City, serving students in a diverse, high-need high school environment. From 2004 to 2009, he supported students academically and emotionally, with particular attention to multilingual learners and students with individualized education programs. He managed large caseloads while collaborating closely with teachers, administrators, and families.

During this time, he also contributed to operational decisions on staffing and budgeting, gaining early exposure to systems-level work that would later define his leadership roles. His years in the New York City Department of Education remain formative, shaping his belief that education is a powerful tool for social change.

Return to Seattle and Administrative Growth

After returning to Seattle, Morales continued his work as a School Social Worker at a comprehensive high school, maintaining his focus on advocacy and holistic student support. This role reaffirmed his desire to influence school-wide systems and led him to pursue a career in administrative leadership.

From 2011 to 2015, he served as a Principal Intern, Dean of Students, and Assistant Principal at a high school in the region. These roles allowed him to develop skills in school culture development, discipline reform, and instructional leadership. He worked closely with staff to promote consistency, safety, and high expectations for all students.

Principalship and School Transformation

From 2021 through 2025, he served as Principal of an international high school, leading the school through a period of growth and reflection. His tenure focused on fostering a positive, inclusive school culture grounded in safety, academic rigor, and mutual respect. Ray Garcia oversaw instructional leadership, staff development, and strategic recruitment while managing complex budgets and funding sources.

Mental health support and community engagement were key priorities during this period. He worked to expand access to counseling services and partnered with families and community organizations to strengthen student support networks. These efforts contributed to a school environment where students and staff felt valued and supported.

Entrepreneurial Experience and Community Focus

In addition to his work in education, he explored entrepreneurship through a community-centered clothing brand he co-founded between 2014 and 2020. The venture reflected his interest in social justice, creative expression, and local culture. It introduced non-traditional retail experiences to the Seattle area and emphasized intentional messaging and inclusive representation.

The business also supported undocumented students through scholarships and community events. While the venture was successful, he chose to step away as he entered his first year as a principal, prioritizing his responsibilities in public education.

Civic Engagement and Volunteerism

His commitment to community extends beyond his professional roles. Ray Garcia has supported numerous organizations through financial contributions and volunteer service, focusing on food security, housing stability, education, and workforce development. He currently volunteers with organizations addressing homelessness and supporting individuals involved in the justice system, reflecting his belief in holistic and compassionate support.

Personal Background and Perspective

A lifelong resident of Seattle, he finds balance and inspiration in the Pacific Northwest's natural landscapes. He values time spent outdoors, exploring both urban spaces and mountain environments. While he holds positive memories of his years in New York City, he considers Washington’s scenery and sense of place unmatched.

Ray Garcia-Morales concludes his story as a leader guided by service, reflection, and a commitment to continuous growth. His career demonstrates how steady leadership, grounded in social work principles and community connection, can contribute to stronger schools and more equitable educational systems. This mission continues to define Ray Garcia.
